Sure, there might be a better alternative to the Dragon Hunter Crossbow in the future. It will perform satisfactorily in other PvE situations, even if it’s too specialized. With the right build, you’ll be a veritable one-player-army (or at least close to it) in any dragon hunting situation. It’s a good weapon to fight with, and that’s not counting the additional accuracy and damage bonus to dragons. That’s only five points away from Armadyl Crossbow‘s (the number one) +100. With an attack range bonus of +95, it’s ranked as the second strongest crossbow used for dragon. As such, you’ll have to weigh the expenses and the profits you can get before attempting to farm it. That means you’re going to spend some of your hard-earned resources and gold. There’s no telling how many runs you’ll need to do. You’re likely to need to run the dungeon many times over just to get one. The only way to get the dragonbane weapon outside of the Grand Exchange is as a reward for completing the Chambers of Xeric. Of course, the effects make it valuable, but another aspect to it is its rarity. It’s a massive boon for anyone who is doing the slayer quests for dragons. The effects of an imbued Slayer Helm do as well, but multiplicatively instead. This damage bonus stacks additively with the Void Knight set. The exceptions are Elvarg and revenant dragons. That includes wyverns, the Great Olm in the Chambers of Xeric and other draconic creatures. It gives a 30% increase in damage when fighting against dragons and similar enemies. What sets the Dragon Hunter Crossbow apart from others of its kind is its item effects. That’s still a far cry from the Armadyl’s 25.4 million, and here’s why it is so. Today, at the time of writing this article, it’s priced at about 98.3 million gold. You might be wondering ‘Why is it more expensive, despite being weaker than the Armadyl? Last year, it even reached a price of 173.6 million OSRS gold. So you might’ve come across the Dragon Hunter Crossbow. The choice ultimately rests on the player. As with everything, there are pros and cons to using bows or crossbows. Fortunately, that’s mitigated by the ability to hold shields or prayer enhance books on the unoccupied hand. They’re more accurate and are stronger than bows. Considering that a Ranger doesn't even get 5th level slots until tier 4, there's a pretty good chance of getting to use it to its full extent with a character that powerful.Crossbows in Old School Runescape are the one-handed answer to bows. For a spell that allows you to choose new targets every round, 8-24 hours duration makes it a lot more potent. You don't even have to avoid getting hit, you just have to make the concentration check. The Class Variant Options in last year's Unearthed Arcana fixes this, Rangers get it for free, no spell slot, doesn't count against your prepared spells, and best of all, doesn't use concentration. But please don't insult my intelligence as tell me that you are going to be able to maintain concentration for a spell that gives you combat/damage related buffs for 8-24 hours! So lame… again, in MY opinion. Sure, it's a first level spell and at 11th level I have 4 spell slots for these per day, so if you get debuffed halfway into an encounter, no big deal, cast it again. If you are going 8-24 hours without getting hit 2-3 times, what the hell are you doing? This spell is not going to last more than 1, maybe 2 encounters (if you are really lucky). But if you are a melee ranger, digging in on the front lines hitting and getting hit, you are GOING to get hit and eventually lose concentration within 2-3 hits. I mean I get the whole concentration check thing if you are a wizard, behind the front lines being all "avoiding getting hit" and stuff like they are apt to do. ![]() yeah, could be useful, but for a 3rd, 4th or 5th level spell slot? Seems pretty expensive just for Advantage on a tracking check. Like the only way this would be useful is if you don't plan to get into battle during this period and you just want to get Advantage when tracking. The extended duration element (for a spell that can be broken by a failed concentration save) by using a higher level spell slot is, in my opinion, stupid. ![]() I mean do you expect not to get hit in the next 8 (or 24) hours? There are MUCH better 3rd, 4th and 5th level spells to use over Hunter's Mark to get an extra 1d6 until you fail a concentration save. I mean if you use a 3rd level spell slot to extend it's duration to 8 hours (or God forbid a 5TH level spell slot to extend it to 24hours), all that needs to happen is a lucky kobold arrow and a bad concentration save and it's all over. But for the life of me, I can't figure out why on earth you would cast this as a higher level spell to increase the duration. I get that the spell requires concentration so that you don't crazy stack bonuses.
